"Mama," says Saia afterschool one day. "Why don't we have a menorah in our house?""Well, babe, we're not Jewish," I begin, expecting to have to navigate through a very long and detailed explanation about religion.
"Oh, yeah," she says. "Jenna is Jewish."
"Is she?" I ask.
"Yeah, and Charlotte is only half Jewish," she continues. "And half French."
"Oh?"
"But Riley, you remember Riley, Mama?" she asks.
"Mm-hm," I say.
"She's the best...because she's half Jewish AND half Christmas."
