TEXAS - DAY 3 - EVIL EYE, CONT'D...

FALLING OFF A HORSE

It was far scarier to watch than harmful to the children.

Camera in hand, I watched them slowly begin to slide to the right, as Grandpa tried to lead Genie down the embankment near the pond.  With little else to hold onto, though, my guess is that Chago pulled his sister down not only with him, but as padding for his own fall.

So, Saia really took the brunt of it. Sustaining a major blue/green bruise to the inside of her knee, a red and sore back, a mashed up elbow, and a couple of scratches to her ankle.  She was scared, but strong, and hardly cried at all after the initial screeching that scared the living hell out of Grandpa.

Chago...was a little sore and shaken.

After lots of ice, peroxide, antibiotic ointment, some kisses, and lots of close monitoring, I texted Amy with the details of INCIDENT #1.

FINDING BIRD EGGS

Assured that both kiddos were fine and nearly back to normal -- although slightly more wary of riding bareback -- the adventures continued, including discovering a mama bird distracting us by pretending to be injured so that we wouldn't find her spotted eggs.  Such a smart mama.

Of course, the monsters took this as a challenge and within minutes had located the not-so-well-hidden eggs, but, thankfully, did no damage (that I'm aware of).

FINDING NEWBORN KITTENS

Next thing I knew they were off again, this time chasing Yuca the cat, whom they had recently determined must've been pregnant because she was "really really fat just last week and now she's all skin and bones."

With a little investigative work and the whole lot of cousins hot on the trail of the missing litter, it wasn't long before they, too, were discovered...in a culvert under Grandpa's driveway.

But the day was not yet done. No, no, not nearly!!!
